A letter from Mr Jones

We have had an extremely busy term and year here at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for their hard work and dedication to the school. Many of the activities including the weekly Urdd Club, sports and musical practises have been held after school and I really appreciate my fantastic staff.

Congratulations to Miss Catrin Evans and her Eco-committee team for their fantastic success this term. Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân has won the eco-schools ‘Green Flag’ award. The Green Flag is a prestigous award gained by schools who have met the top-level criteria of the eco-schools programme and are engaged fully in environmental and sustainable actions.

Many thanks to the PTA for raising so much money during the year. Discos have been organised on a regular basis and the Year 6 treat was a great success.
The Summer Fayre rasied £705.43 for the school and the car wash raised £126.
The staff would also like to thank the parents and grandparents who have helped us with the school trips.

Parents, pupils and staff have raised £601 for the Jennifer Trust Charity. Thank you very much for all of your contributions and your support during the year.
From September we will be supporting the PKU charity (The National Society for Phenylketonuria).

The sponsored keep fit activities were a success again this year. The total raised amounted to over £1,000. A big thank you to the pupils for their hard work in collecting sponsorship money.

S4C have been in contact today. They would like to film 10 confident Year 1 and 2 pupils for their programme ‘Cyw’. The filming will take place at Greenmeadow Farm on the 29th of August. Please contact us before the end of the week if you are interested.

Miss Elin Hopkins our Deputy Headteacher will be leaving the school at the end of the term. I would like to thank her for all of her hard work and dedication to the school. We wish her all the best when she begins her new role in Barry in September. We also wish Mr Rhys Griffiths and his new family the very best when he moves back to Swansea in the summer.

Mrs Bethan Long will be returning to the school in September following her maternity leave. We also welcome Miss Katie Thomas and Mr Geraint Passmore to our family. Miss Thomas will be teaching a Reception class in September and Mr Passmore will be teaching in the Junior Department.

We have been informed by the Education Department that schools in Wales have been allocated 5 staff training days during the next academic year. We have booked 4 of these days for next term.

2nd and 3rd of September
11th of October and the 1st of November.

The final staff training day will be booked in due course for the Summer Term, 2011.

I have arranged for Mrs Liz Russell (the school nurse) to come to talk to us about head lice. She will be able to give you advice, information and answer any of your questions.
A meeting has been arranged for all the parents in the school hall on the 15th of September at 9.15am.

Welsh lessons for parents are due to begin at the school again in September. They will be held at the school every Thursday (4pm-6pm).

Thank you to the parents for all of your support. This is my seventh year here at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân . My hair has gone greyer and thinner over the years but I am very proud of our achievements here. It would be impossible without your support and assistance.

You should be very proud of your children. Many visitors to the school have commented on their excellent behaviour and politeness. The standard of their Welsh oracy has also been praised on several occasions and our end of Key Stage results were excellent again this year.
