Here's what been happening for the last few weeks at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân:

Raising Money:
PTA: The PTA have made over £1100 through the Christmas Fayre, the Easyfundraising website and by selling Christmas cards. Thanks to the PTA for all their hard work.

Easyfundraising:
94 members have joined us on easyfundraising so far and we’ve made £220 for the school. It is a free and easy way to make money for the school if you shop on line. If you haven’t signed up yet, please sign up at www.easyfundraising.org.uk and support Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân PTA. Thank you.

Trips:
KS2 pupils visited Caerleon to learn about the Celts and the Romans in November.

Competitions:
The Urdd Swimming Gala:
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the swimming gala. Dewi Rosser will be going on to represent Torfaen in the National Swimming Gala in January.

The rugby team has taken part in two competitions so far; the Urdd competition and Pontypool schools tournament. The football and hockey teams have also taken part in different tournaments.

59 pupils from years 5 and 6 enjoyed a trip to Llangrannog in November. The pupils had an opportunity to meet other year 6 pupils who will be attending Gwynllyw.
Year 6 pupils will be performing in Gwynllyw’s Christmas Concert in Pontypool on December 15th.

Clubs:
Here are the clubs that exist at the moment:
Sewing (Year 2) Urdd Club (KS2) Choir (KS2) Chess Club (5 and 6), Drama (5 and 6) Rugby (5 and 6) Fitness Club (4, 5 and 6) There will be a football club after Christmas.

The School Council/Eco-Committee:
As a school, we have won the green flag award. Thanks to Miss Enfys Owen for her hard work with the eco-committee.

The School Council has had a busy term. They’re currently arranging a poster competition for the whole school. They also raised over £40 in the Christmas Fayre. Thanks to Mrs Spanwsick and Mr Bridson for their hard work.

SCHOOP:
We have introduced an App to the school to help with communication between the home and school. We’re hoping to communicate much more through this app in the future. The school website will still be updated on a weekly basis. Our School ID for Schoop is 10319. Any important dates can be found in the calendar part of the app.

Attendance:
Our attendance so far this year is 95.5%. We’re still aiming high for 96% for the year.

The School Choir:
The choir has been very busy practising this term. The choir had a concert in St. Gabriel’s Church last week. They’re looking forward to start practising for the Eisteddfod in Caerphilly in the new year!

Dates for next year’s Eisteddfod:
First Round:
Saturday, March 7th.
Second Round:
Saturday, March 21st.
National Round:
The last week of May. (25.5.2015)

Starting back: The pupils will start back in school on Tuesday, January 6th.
