Our Christmas Food Bank Campaign:

Our Christmas Food Bank Campaign:

4th December 2017

A letter was sent home with the pupils tonight, outlining our Christmas Campaign.

The school prefects visited the Salvation Army Church a few weeks ago and, here is their letter, outlining our campaign:

As you know, we’re having a Christmas Jumper day on Friday, December 15th. We are hoping to do something similar to what we did last year which was to give donations of tins to the local food bank. A few weeks ago, we visited the Salvation Army Church in Old Cwmbrân to see the use of the food bank there. There is a food bank available to local people every day of the week and, on a Wednesday, it is held at the Salvation Army Church on Wesley Street.

Last year, as well as supplying the food bank with food, we also supplied toiletries and made bags up for people less fortunate than us and for those living on the streets. With the kind donations of the pupils and staff at Ysgol Gymraeg Cwmbrân, we donated 40 bags full of toiletries which went a very long way.

On the 15th of December, the pupils are more than welcome to come to school dressed in a Christmas jumper / accessory and we’re kindly asking for a donation of one of the following: a donation of food for the food bank (see ideas below), a donation of toiletries for the bags (see ideas below) or a monetary contribution for Save the Children.

Food for the food bank: The kind of foods which are normally included in a food bank package are: UHT milk, orange juice, tea or coffee, sugar, pasta, cereal, meat and fish tins, tinned vegetables, tinned beans, tinned tomatoes, pasta sauce and biscuits.

The bags we’re hoping to make up will include: shampoo, shower gel, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, a brush, toilet roll, deodorant and wipes.

We appreciate that this time of year is very expensive for everyone so please don’t go to great expense. Any donation, big or small, is a great help and will go a long way in helping people less fortunate than us over the Christmas period.

The pupils have also sent letter to five local shops asking for their support with the campaign.

Thanks in advance for your support.

Diolch yn fawr.
